Report: How Professional Athletes Benefit from Alkaline Water

Competitive, elite athletes and sports trainers know that subtle changes in pH can have profound effects on the overall health, feeling of wellness, level of fatigue, pain, weight, ability to train and athletic performance. Muscles work best in a narrow range of Ph. At rest, muscle pH is about 6.9, while arterial blood is about 7.4. When we exercise, the increased use of muscle glycogen for energy produces lactic acid, pyruvic acid, and CO2, which decreases muscle pH. The harder you exercise the quicker your muscles become acidic, which leads to fatigue. Accumulation of acid also limits the production of ATP, the energy molecule, and disrupts enzyme activity that produces energy. For example, the enzyme phosphofructokinase is the rate-limiting step in muscle use of glycogen. When muscle pH falls below 6.5 it stops working altogether. Acidity also reduces muscle power directly by inhibiting the contractile action of muscle fibers.
“Endurance and elite sports athletes should be concerned about maintaining a healthy pH balance,” says Robert Burns, PhD. He notes that lactic acid build-up or hydrogen ion excess is of most concern. As the body metabolises food, acid waste is created which must be removed or neutralised through the lungs, kidneys (urine) and skin. “pH balance and acid buffering are crucial to human health and slowing the aging process,” he explains. Athletes, coaches and practitioners of holistic and traditional medicine are paying more attention to this area. “We may be able to buffer or slow the negative effects that acidosis has on athletes as well as the many disparate maladies that share acidosis as a common thread,” he concludes.
The use of alkaline water is proving to increase competitiveness and overall performance in world class athletes. A diet that supports alkalinity is also recommended by sports nutritionists. Consuming alkaline water will reduce the accumulation of acidity in exercising muscles, improving workout intensity and recovery time. Former Denver Bronco, Bill Romanowski, was introduced to the power of ‘ionised’ water late in his career doing anything legal to maintain his competitive edge.
Competitive bodybuilder, Wade McNutt, credits the use of alkaline water for motivating him to come out of retirement. He says he has increased his training volume by 2.5 times with decreased recovery time and no muscle soreness. In his opinion, all sports teams should be drinking alkaline water because it will reduce injuries and allow for more efficient training. He went on to win the Canadian Natural Bodybuilding Championship and has written a book about his experience with ionised water, saying that within days of drinking the water, he lost a significant amount of body fat and was able to train more than double his peak volume levels with no pain, no fatigue and no inflammation.
In her book “The Chemistry of Success: Secrets of Peak Performance”, Susan Lark, MD, talks about the role of acid/alkaline balance in peak performance and health. The following is her assessment of alkaline water:
“The benefits of the alkaline water created through electrolysis far exceed just its ability to gently raise the pH of the cells and tissues of the body and to neutralize acids. Because the alkaline water has gained a significant number of free electrons through the electrolysis process, it is able to donate these electrons to active oxygen free radicals in the body, thereby becoming a super antioxidant. By donating its excess free electrons, alkaline water is able to block the oxidation of normal tissue by free oxygen radicals.”
She continues by noting that another significant benefit of the electrolysis process is that the cluster size of the alkaline water is reduced by about 50% from the cluster size of tap water. “This allows ionized alkaline water to be much more readily absorbed by the body, thereby increasing the water’s hydrating ability and its ability to carry its negative ions and alkalizing effect to all the cells and tissues of the body .If you are overly acidic an alkaline water device can provide a safe, gentle and effective way of restoring the pH balance of all the cells in your body as well as providing excess free electrons to act as super antioxidants,” Lark recommends.
Most people, including most athletes, do not consume enough alkaline rich foods, such as nuts, fruits, and vegetables. Instead their diets contain high amounts of acid forming foods, such as meat, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy. Because of this dietary imbalance, they may be at risk for increased acidosis that affects overall health and sports performance. Since proper hydration is also a key factor in preventing exercise fatigue, consuming alkaline water before, during and after exercise can help.
Alkaline water is quickly replacing “energy drinks” as the best on-site option for staying hydrated and improving performance. Elite athletes are discovering the performance-enhancing benefits of alkaline water. And not just “on the field.” By drinking alkaline water throughout the day, regardless of their training competition demands, they are able to keep their bodies hydrated and balanced before, during and after strenuous workouts.
Muscle Use & Acid Production
As muscles work, acids and CO2 are produced, decreasing the muscle pH. Once muscle pH dips below the 6.5 level it is no longer able to function. As the muscle creeps closer to that 6.5 pH level, you start to feel the pH drop in the form of muscle fatigue. The body is naturally wired to maintain proper pH balance however during a workout, acids are being produced at a rate higher than the body can effectively handle. An alkaline water regimen helps to maintain optimal blood and muscle pH levels when the body is in a resting or low activity state. By starting at an alkaline state, effective performance times are increased and the longer it takes for muscle fatigue to set in. Rehydrating with alkaline water during a workout helps the body balance the excess acids being produced by the muscles, extending peak performance time. Shortened Recovery Times

They also find that post work-out fatigue is reduced dramatically – or eliminated alltogether – and recovery times are shortened significantly. Traditional methods of hydration and electrolyte replacement do little to address the issue of acid produced during exertion. Instead, they gear the body up to continue to do more and produce more acids. In fact, many popular sports drinks contribute to dehydration as the sugars and carbohydrate content prevent absorption of fluids. This water has not only impacted my athletes but it has impacted me on a personal level as well.
Before I discuss how this product dramatically affected my athletes, I first want to give a personal testimony to the effects of ionised water. Greg Norton first came into my office in September praising the benefits of drinking his water. He gave us the sales pitch and provided us with some samples, just asking that we try it out. I gave a gallon jug to one of my assistants and kept one for myself. I tucked mine under the desk still thinking “yea right it can do all that and it’s just water”.
During this time our athletic teams were battling a nasty virus that was knocking athletes out for 4-7 days with flu like symptoms (we believe it was H1N1). Late that afternoon low and behold here come the symptoms on me. Hit me like a ton of bricks. I looked down and there was my gallon jug. I grabbed that thing quick and finished the bottle within 2 hours. Some may say it was all mental or I just was dehydrated but within an hour of finishing that bottle I felt completely normal. No symptoms.
Had two other instances with my family where my wife and son woke up coughing or with a fever and by the end of the day drinking ionised water, they felt totally normal again. The skeptic turned into a believer in a short amount of time and I decided that if it can have this kind of effect on my family and I then I have to introduce it to my athletes.
At this time I was working primarily with our football team. Prior to this season, the football team had a tremendous time dealing with exertional cramps. Several key players would “cramp up” during every game. They were drinking water, Gatorade, even Pedialyte. They were given supplements and “heat aid” and still not able to finish a game without suffering from severe cramps in their calves, thighs, hamstrings and/or low back.
We decided this would be our test group. We had seven athletes who we classified as “crampers”. Greg agreed to supply us with enough water and gallon jugs for these guys. We had them drink a whole jug Wednesday-Friday and at least ½ a jug on Saturday (game day). This was fairly close to or equal to the amount of fluid they drank normally. We started the week before our 9/26/09 game and continued for the rest of the season.
No cramping episodes from any of the seven during this time. We did experience cramping episodes from athletes not on the program. We quickly started them on the ionised water and had no more episodes. In fact, after the second game of using ionised water we talked with Greg about getting a loaner machine for the Athletic Training Room. He also loaned us a 5 gallon cooler unit. Most of the team began drinking the water by the cup full. They would come in after practice, pull up a stool to the cooler and drink cup after cup. Starting calling the water “miracle water” and “smooth water” because of the way it tastes.
They all loved it because they felt like they could drink and drink and never feel bloated (Greg would later tell me this has to do with the micro clustering of the water). On 10/24 we took a trip down to Daytona Beach, FL. We had been practicing in 70 degree weather with little humidity. We show up down there and we got upper 80’s and 60% humidity. Alarms start going off! Went through the whole game and not one athlete cramped. Actually had several of the opposing teams’ players go down late in a close game due to cramps. This is a team that had been practicing in those conditions, acclimated if you will. All my guys were saying “See they should be drinking that smooth water. They wouldn’t be cramping”.
When the season was over the decision to buy our own unit was easy. Since we had our unit it has been introduced to all of our athletes with similar results to above. I’ve had several athletes say they feel “stronger”, “more athletic” or “lighter on their feet” since they’ve started drinking ionised water. When an athlete tells you those things it means something. Unlike hydrogen peroxide, which adds oxygen molecules to the body (i.e. they don’t already exist in the body), ionized water makes existing oxygen molecules already in the body available to the cancer cells by giving them electrons. This actually has advantages because it removes damaging free radicals at the same time.
According to studies conducted by Dr. Mu Shik Jhon, he concluded that “the water surrounding normal DNA is highly structured, and much less mobile than the water around abnormal DNA. This tightly held and highly structured water which surrounds normal DNA acts to stabilize the helical structure of the DNA .It forms a layer of protection from all outside influences which could cause malfunction or distortion.” The highly structured, less mobile water is “Hexagonal” or “Ionised Alkaline Micro Clustered” Water. Pentagonal Water (or regular water), is less structured and more mobile. It is less stabilizing and less protective.
Dr Jhon also did a study to determine the effects of “Hexagonal Water” (Ionised Alkaline Micro Clustered Water) on cultured cancer cells. His discovery states “In unprocessed (pentagonal or regular) water, tumour cells increased to 3.2 million in four days. However the tumour cells that were exposed to Hexagonal (Ionised Alkaline Micro Clustered) Water decreased to 20,000 during the same four day period.” Along with cancer, the study found that the water surrounding DNA in diabetic cells was also less structured and more mobile.
Ionized water is also very alkaline. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an alkaline environment. Dr. Keiichi Morishita in his book “The Hidden Truth of Cancer” states that if the blood develops a more acidic condition, then these excess acidic wastes have to be deposited somewhere in the body. If this unhealthy process continues year after year, these areas steadily increase in acidity, and their cells begin to die.
Other cells in the affected area may survive by becoming abnormal; these are called malignant. Malignant cells do not respond to brain commands. They undergo a cellular division that is out of control. This is called cancer. Modern medicine treats these malignant cells as if they were bacteria or viruses. It uses chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery to treat cancer, yet none of these treatments will help very much, if after all of that, the acidic environment remains.
Drinking ionised water that has a high alkaline pH because of its de-acidifying effect, will help in preventing cancer. In Asia, alkaline water is regularly served to patients in many of the major hospitals, and is considered a regular part of treatment.
In the 1920’s, Dr Otto Warburg carried out a great deal of work on cancer’s basic mechanism and was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1932. Warburg’s work clearly demonstrated that cancer is, fundamentally, a relatively simple disease where cell oxygen levels fall to a level sufficiently low enough for the cell to change in nature.
Poor oxygenation comes from a buildup of carcinogens and other toxins within and around cells, which blocks and then damages the cellular oxygen respiration mechanism. As more acid wastes back up, and the body slowly stews in its poisonous wastes, a chronically over acidic body pH corrodes body tissue, slowly eating into the 60,000 miles of our veins and arteries like acid eating into marble. Clumping up of red blood cells slows down the bloodstream, and restricts flow of O2 into capillaries, which just adds to the worsening conditions. Even lack of the proper building blocks for cell walls, essential fatty acids and magnesium restricts oxygen exchange.
Cancer needs anaerobic (airless) conditions to grow and spread. What orthodox oncologists don’t see clearly is that cancer is not only human cells, which have changed their nature, but infectious entities that are thriving under these low O2 conditions. Doctors need to consider both the altered cells and the infectious pathogens thriving off these cells as the combined enemy we call cancer.
Medical scientists are excited to have uncovered what they thought was a brand new approach to cancer treatment. Because they never paid Warburg any attention they thought that by increasing an oxygen supply to tumor cells they would help them grow, however by oxygenating the cell they found the opposite and were able to do a better job of killing them. They even found in patients with pancreatic cancer, which is notoriously difficult to treat, that the results were also positive.
There are now hundreds of hospitals, big and small, in Japan that use ionised water as a part of their medical practices. Ionised water seems to work very effectively, whatever type and stage your cancer situation might be. A few years ago, there was even a public project, organized by a veteran nurse who helped ALL of 30 terminal cancer patients she took on recover from the death bed, all within months, by simply giving them ionised water. While the amount of water the patients had to drink (4 to 10 litres a day) and the types of cancer (from breast, bladder, lung, liver, stomach, intestines, prostate to even leukaemia) varied, all of the patients had been diagnosed as terminal from their previous doctors.
Ionised water also has the power to affect the bio-energetic molecule ATF, which is responsible for cell division. So when a cancer patient receives the de-ionised water injection, the ATF molecule no longer misses the moment of random cell multiplication. The tumor growth will be stopped.

In July 2002, Ryoko Matsuda, a practicing nurse, conveys this experience with ionised water:
“As is often the case with doctors, this practicing surgeon didn’t pay attention to his own health. However, he was a former teacher of Ryoko who had helped her a lot when she was fresh out of nursing school. Now, the doctor had both stomach and lung cancer and was only given 2 days to live. Diabetes is a group of diseases marked by high levels of blood glucose, also called blood sugar, resulting from defects in insulin production, insulin action or both. It is the result of a pH imbalance around the pancreas which interrupts the way the body produces and uses insulin and sugar. With this ailment the pH is low, very acidic. To understand what happens inside your body relating to the development of diabetes, let’s look at the life cycle of a peach. I think everyone has taken a bite of a peach which is not ripe yet. It is hard and has not yet become sweet. The peaches will become sweeter as they ripen with the sugar content increasing. In the end of the life cycle the peaches become too soft and enter the spoiling stage where they over soften and start to bruise. The cells of the peach are ‘melting down’ as the peach ages. Ionised alkaline water is medically known to help the human body to recuperate from being dehydrated and also to recover from other types of diseases that are associated with dehydration. This could be due to the fact that ionised water contains clusters of five to six water molecules, making this an excellent hydrator as smaller elements can move through the cellular membrane more easily. Regular water from the tap contains twelve to fifteen molecules of water which makes it more difficult for the human body to absorb and utilise water effectively.
How is it linked to diabetes? A research study done in one of the hospitals in Korea show that diabetic patients taking alkaline ionised water have greater chances for recovery and blood sugar level stability compared to those patients who were following the usual diabetic patients’ regime.
In this study, diabetic patients were grouped separately; the group having a regular insulin shot and the group taking alkaline ionised water. The result of this study was explained in Dr. Won H. Kim’s book entitled “Water of Life”. He explained in this book the remarkable differences that were observed after the study was conducted.
Accordingly, patients who followed the alkaline ionised water therapy have had stable blood sugar level, while the other group which continuously had insulin shots never attained stable level of blood sugar. “There are more benefits to alkaline water than simply the alkalinity or pH. The most important feature of alkaline water produced by a water alkalizer is its oxidation reduction potential (ORP). Water with a high negative ORP is of particular value in its ability to neutralize oxygen free radicals. ORP can also be directly tested using an ORP sensor and meter. 1. Dr. Hiromi Shinya was born in 1935 in Fukuoka. After graduating from Juntendo Univesity, School of Medicine, he was internationally active and made a phenomenal impact as a pioneer in the field of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Hiromi Shinya is a clinical professor of surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University; head of the endoscopic center at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, New York; and Vice-chairman of the Japanese Medical Association in the United States. He is also affiliated with both the Maeda Hospital and Hanzoo-mon Gastrointestinal Clinic in Japan. 5. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, M.D., an internationally renowned researcher, author and advocate of the natural healing power of water, was born in Iran in 1931. 6. Otto Heinrich Warburg was born on October 8, 1883, in Freiburg, Baden. His father, the physicist Emil Warburg, was President of the Physikalische Reichsanstalt, Wirklicher Geheimer Oberregierungsrat. Otto studied chemistry under the great Emil Fischer, and gained the degree, Doctor of Chemistry (Berlin), in 1906. He then studied under von Krehl and obtained the degree, Doctor of Medicine (Heidelberg), in 1911. He served in the Prussian Horse Guards during World War I. In 1918 he was appointed Professor at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Biology, Berlin-Dahlem. Since 1931 he is Director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Cell Physiology, there, a donation of the Rockefeller Foundation to the Kaiser Wilhelm Gesellschaft, founded the previous year.
For his discovery of the nature and mode of action of the respiratory enzyme, the Nobel Prize has been awarded to him in 1931. This discovery has opened up new ways in the fields of cellular metabolism and cellular respiration. He has shown, among other things, that cancerous cells can live and develop, even in the absence of oxygen. Otto Warburg is a Foreign Member of the Royal Society, London (1934) and a member of the Academies of Berlin, Halle, Copenhagen, Rome, and India. He has gained l’Ordre pour le Mérite, the Great Cross, and the Star and Shoulder Ribbon of the Bundesrepublik. In 1965 he was made doctor honoris causa at Oxford University. 7. Dr. William Howard Hay graduated from the New York University Medical College in 1891 and spent 16 years in regular medicine, specializing in surgery. He later developed Bright’s Disease, and was unable to cure it using accepted medical methods of the time. This led him to find alternative methods to rid himself of disease. He came up with the concept of food combining (also known as the Dr. Hay diet), the idea that certain foods require an acid pH environment in digestion, and other foods require an alkaline pH environment, and that both cannot take place at the same time, in the same environment. After curing himself through proper diet, he wrote several books, started a sanatorium, and lectured throughout United States and Canada.
8. Dr Keiichi Morishita is Director of the Ochanomizu Clinic in Japan and the Head of the International Natural Medicine Association. He is also an Honorary Professor, Georgia Tbilisi State Medical University, Professor, Choson University & Graduate School, Korea, Visiting Professor, Shenyang Pharmaceutical University, China and Honorary Director, China Health Care Food Association & Senile-Resistant Association, Honorary Director, Non-Pharmacotherapy Treatment & Research Center, Heilongjiang Province China, and Honorary President, Guangxi Pama Institute of Longevity, China, among many others. He is the author of The Hidden Truth of Cancer 1950 Graduated from the Tokyo Medical University where he majored blood physiology. 1955 Received Ph.D. from Chiba University, the school of Medicine. 1960 Presented a basic theory of Natural Medicine for cancer treatment and longevity (Morishita Theory) 1966 Testified as a member of the academic panel at the hearing on cancer by the special Committee for Advancement of Scientific Technologies of the Japanese House of Representatives. 1970 Established the Natural Medicine Society, the Life Science Association and Ochanomizu Clinic 1977. The effectiveness of Natural Medicine was endorsed by the McGovern Report written by Senator George McGovern of the U.S.A. 1982. The validity of the theory, diet of meat produces cancer; diet of grain/vegetables prevents cancer, presented at the hearing was proven by the National Academy of Science (USA) Recommendation.
9. Dr. Robert C. Atkins, a physician and cardiologist was one of the pioneers of complementary medicine in the United States and one of the most famous, successful and enduring nutrition experts of the last 40 years. He was the founder of The Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine and Atkins Nutritionals, Inc. He also authored more than a dozen health and nutrition books, including Dr. Atkins’ New Diet Revolution, one of the 50 best-selling books of all time, and Atkins for Life, which quickly joined Dr. Atkins’ New Diet Revolution on The New York Times bestseller list.
10. Dr. Stefan Kuprowsky is a Canadian naturopathic doctor with impressive academic credentials and a strong vision for natural medicine. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Anthropology from Trent University (1977), a Master’s in Medical Anthropology (1982) and a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine (1985). 11. Theodore A. Baroody, DC, ND, Ph.D., Dipl. Acu. was born in Sanford, NC, in 1950. He received his B.S. in Psychology and his Masters degree in Educational Counseling from Western Carolina University in 1974 and 1978. He received his D.C. degree from Life Chiropractic College of Marietta, Ga. in 1981. He further studied in Beirut, Lebanon and at Colombo Americano, Columbia, as well as having traveled extensively in Europe and Asia to gather information on the healing arts. 13. Dr. Lester Packer, is the world’s foremost antioxidant research scientist. 14. Dr. Ray Kurzweil is one of the world’s leading inventors, thinkers, and futurists. 15. Professor Mu Shik Jhon, Honorary and Founding president of the Association of Academies of Sciences in Asia (AASA) and Former President of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST), was born in 1932 at Taegu, Korea and received BS and MS degrees from Department of Chemistry, Seoul National University in 1954 and 1958, respectively. Then he moved to U.S.A. to pursue his doctorate study at Department of Chemistry, University of Utah. He received his Ph.D. degree in 1966 and became an assistant professor at University of Virginia. Three years later, Prof. Jhon came back to his mother country, Korea, to serve as the head of Liquid State Chemistry Research Laboratory at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in 1969. Then, he joined the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) as a charter member in 1971. Prof. Jhon is a foreign fellow of National Academy of Sciences, India, and Pakistan Academy of Sciences, a foreign academician of Russian Academy of Science and a fellow of the European Academy of Arts, Sciences & Humanities. He published over 280 papers and produced many eminent scholars including about 50 Ph.D.s. He served as President of KAST, Founding President of AASA, Founding President of the Korean Association for the Advancement of Sciences and Chairman of the Board of Research Institute of Bioinformatics and Molecular Design. His main research fields were the theory of liquids and solids, structure and properties of water and aqueous solution, water and biological molecules, theoretical studies of zeolite, hydrogel and polymers. He was interested in the role of water in biological system, especially human body. To explain the role of water, he proposed a liquid structure theory, “Significant Structure Theory” and extended it to water. Hexagonal and pentagonal water structures are the water cluster models that he introduced to explain the abnormal behaviors of water. During last two decades before he passed away, he intensively worked on the illumination of the relation between hexagonal water and health, and authored The Water Puzzle and the Hexagonal Key.
16. Dr. Hidemitsu Hayashi was born in 1938. He practiced medicine and specialized in Cardiovascular Surgery after graduating in 1968 from the Medical School of Kobe University, Japan. He also studied at the University of Munich (1970-71). Specialized in the field of Cardiovascular Medicine. In 1985, after 20 years of clinical experiences as a surgeon he began advanced research on the medical benefits of water. In 1995 he simultaneously released in Japan and the U.S. his theory on the effects of hydrogen-rich water in preventing and treating illnesses. 17. Dr. Yoshiaki Matsuo PhD is Vice President of the Water Institute of Japan and was contributing inventor to the modern domestic ionizer.
18. Dr. Sanetaka Shirahata is a Professor of Cellular Regulation Technology at the Department of Genetic Resources Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Kyushu University. 19. Dr. Arthur M. Echano, M.D., N.D., D.HOM.I., MACNEM is a Medical Doctor, a Naturopath, and a Nutritional Medicine specialist based in New South Wales, Australia who has been successfully practicing nutritional therapy in cancer management for the past 20 years. While the actual cause of Parkinson’s remains unknown, there are two related theories put out by the medical establishment as to what causes this destruction of certain brain cells. One hypothesis is that the cells are destroyed by toxins within the body that the liver is unable to filter out because as the body ages, the liver loses its ability to work as efficiently and effectively as it once did. Another theory is that exposure to environmental toxins, such as herbicides and pesticides that leach into the ground water, is responsible. In fact, the American Medical Association has recently declared that it believes the culprit for this devastating disorder to be pesticides, insecticides, herbicides and other inorganic chemicals.
Interestingly enough, the basis of many pesticides and insecticides is toxic metals such as arsenic (rat poison), cadmium (fertilizers) and lead. Some people with Parkinson’s disease have been found to have high levels of lead in their brains. In the book “The Truth About Where You Live”, Benjamin Goldman reports extensive studies of pesticides and chemical toxicity as they relate to Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He also points out that Parkinson’s has been correlated with rural farming practices throughout the country. In the U.S. alone, 1.3 million tons of pesticides are used each year, both in agriculture and for cosmetically altering the foods we eat.
According to a featured news article on MSNBC.com, the evidence that exposure to environmental toxins such as pesticides and herbicides causes Parkinson’s disease is stronger than it’s ever been before. Reducing the load of toxins on your body means eliminating preservatives, additives, food colorings, artificial sweeteners, monosodium glutamate (MSG) and artificial flavorings. It also means reducing exposure to airborne chemicals, such as perfumes and tobacco smoke, household chemicals, and pesticides and insecticides. Since the first description of Parkinson’s disease (PD) nearly two centuries ago, a number of studies have revealed the clinical symptoms, pathology, and therapeutic approaches to overcome this intractable neurodegenerative disease. 1-methy-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) and 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) are neurotoxins which produce Parkinsonian pathology. From the animal studies using these neurotoxins, it has become well established that oxidative stress is a primary cause of, and essential for, cellular apoptosis in dopaminergic neurons. Here, we describe the mechanism whereby oxidative stress evokes irreversible cell death, and propose a novel therapeutic strategy for PD using molecular hydrogen. Hydrogen has an ability to reduce oxidative damage and ameliorate the loss of nigrostriatal dopaminergic neuronal pathway in two experimental animal models. Thus, it is strongly suggested that hydrogen might provide a great advantage to prevent or minimize the onset and progression of Parkinson’s Disease.
There is a lot of misunderstanding with regard to calcium. Calcium is linked to diseases like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, heart diseases and arteriosclerosis. On the other hand, calcium is supposed to help against exactly these diseases. “The small toe on my left foot had turned black down to the 1st joint and had to be removed. While in the hospital an ulcer on the ball of my big toe had formed. The doctor decided that if it were removed he could stitch up the area in order for it to heal itself.
