No. Some people have been known to drink 4 or more litres of alkaline ionized water every day and achieved great benefits from it. On the contrary, one of the most common imbalances people have today that leads to health problems is that they are too acidic. The more acidic we are, the greater the chances of illness taking hold in our body. In fact, it is rare for a person to acquire alkalosis, the condition of being too alkaline. To maintain optimal health we should maintain a balanced pH diet that includes alkaline water and alkaline foods such as fruits and vegetables.
Please be aware that the stomach needs to be acidic to break down foods, so it’s recommended not to drink alkaline water whilst eating, as it will neutralise the acids required for digestion and simply slow down the digestion process. It is best not to drink water with a meal at all, but if you must, drink water with a neutral pH (pH 7.0). Even neutral water will neutralise acids – this is why drinking with meals is not recommended. Wait at least 30 minutes to 1 hour following each meal before you drink more water; this allows food to leave your stomach.
